The Banaue Rice Terraces is the proof of how hard working the Filipinos are especially in the Ifugao Province. This masterpiece was made using minimal tools, largely by hand by the Ifugao's. It was originaly designed primarily for the irrigation of the rice terraces for water coming in from the rainforest on the top of the terraces. The Banaue rice terraces are located approximately 1500 meters (5000 ft) above sea level and cover 10,360 square kilometers (about 4000 square miles) of mountainside. Today it was declared as World Heritage Site by the UNESCO in order to protect this wonderful place. New generation of Ifugaos were unable to preserve the beauty of this beautiful place as they dont find farming as appealing as it was for their ancestors. Until now, this place is still being used to produce rice and vegetables which are very popular all over the Philippines. And also, continues reconstruction are being needed in order to preserve the beauty of this World Heritage Site.
